Qwerty Kick-down - Sony Ericsson X1 Vs Nokia N97

In the world of smartphones, Sony Ericsson and Nokia have traditionally been the grand masters. Well, now, its time to see how their touchscreen, QWERTY smartphones fair, now, as the Sony Ericsson X1 takes on the Nokia N97.

Sony Ericsson X1 - Windows goes user-friendly...

At the Mobile World Congress in 2008, Sony Ericsson shocked everyone by announcing their first ever Windows Mobile phone. Not only that, but it would be included in a brand new product range, the Xperia series. It is, of course, the Sony Ericsson X1, and since then, it's gone on to prove itself as one of the most capable smartphones ever released. Key to that is the fact that it takes Windows Mobile and makes it not only usable, but user-friendly, with a brilliant Panels Interface ironing out Windows' inherent quirks.

It's powerful, too, with HSDPA, WiFi, built-in GPS and a 3 megapixel camera that just about looks as sharp as other manufacturers' 5MP phones! Not only that, but the X1 packs this high technology into a devilishly sexy body, clad in premium metal, with a wonderful, smooth slide-out keyboard, meaning that it is truly as useful as it is beautiful (i.e. VERY).

Nokia N97 - the single best phone EVER made?

However, the Sony Ericsson X1, although brilliant, isn't the most powerful QWERTY phone out there; there IS a touchscreen mobile phone that can beat it as the top-end powerhouse: the utterly mind-blowing Nokia N97. This takes the brilliant Symbian S60 Touch interface and packages it inside the frame of a proper, full-on smartphone. So it has a bigger, 3.5 inch screen, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, and the camera now weighs in at a meaty 5 megapixels.

The Nokia N97 is, in a very definite way, destined to be the new flagship Nseries mobile phone, and it's genuinely as powerful as the rumours said, with HSDPA, GPS, digital compass, and built-in Flash, so that you get an internet experience that tops any other mobile phones, and that the Sony Ericsson just can't match out of the box! Put it like this: the Nokia N97 is simple incredible. It gleefully relieves itself over other mobile phones and as good as the Sony Ericsson X1 is, I reckon that the Nokia N97 will totally DESTROY all competition this year!
